Twitter and the NBA

As of today, @NBA has 197,922 followers on Twitter – that’s more than triple the amount of people following @ESPN.

The NBA’s tweets range from video highlights, like Ray Allen’s game-winning three in triple OT, to updating fans about NBA’s Green Week (yesterday players sported 100% percent organic shooting shirts from Adidas). @NBA is even re-tweeting – “Courtesy of @the_real_shaq: “Shaq fu vs. Yao ming let’s do it.” Rockets/Suns tonight at 10ET on ESPN.”
I think it shows how far the NBA has come in the last few years – the industry is finally reaching out to its audience and succeeding. Fans want to read about “inside” information from the NBA, especially if it’s information that can’t be found anywhere else. @NBA is updating an average of 15 times per day.

My only hope is that they build on the content that’s tweeted – believe me, the highlight links and stats are awesome, but it’d be even cooler to see an in-depth look on specific teams and the playoff, MVP and Rookie races.

Nonetheless, following @NBA is still worth your time. I’m praying that the NFL follows suit in the fall!

Change, That’s What’s Up

Sitting on my couch witnessing history. The presidency, the house, the senate… it’s all finally in good hands. People have finally realized that this change is imminent and I’m ecstatic that the ball is rolling. Black youth can now add president to their future aspirations without calling it a pipe dream.

I would also like to extend a white flag to Senator McCain. Though Phoenix’s crowd was obscenely rude, McCain was a gracious and encouraging loser.

And to leave on a light note, McCain has just said, “a special thanks to Sarah Palin, who has been the best running mate…”
